The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly is holding an election today, Friday, September 4, 2026, to elect a Presiding Member (PM) to preside over the Assembly’s proceedings and lead deliberations during its sittings.
The election is being conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission (EC), which is overseeing the process to ensure that it is free, fair, credible and transparent.

A total of 54 Assembly members are expected to cast their ballots to determine who will occupy the Presiding Member position.
According to the Electoral Commission, two members—Hon. Eshun Ibraham and Nana Yaw Hanson—initially picked nomination forms to contest the Presiding Member position.
However, the EC indicated that while Hon. Eshun Ibraham duly submitted his completed nomination forms, Nana Yaw Hanson failed to submit his nomination forms within the stipulated period.
Consequently, Hon. Eshun Ibrahim remains the sole candidate whose nomination has been duly received by the Electoral Commission for the election.
The Presiding Member occupies a key position in the administration of the Municipal Assembly. The office is responsible for presiding over Assembly meetings, facilitating deliberations and ensuring that proceedings are conducted in accordance with the relevant laws, standing orders and procedures governing local government.
The election has attracted the attention of Assembly members and other stakeholders, with the outcome expected to determine who will lead proceedings and facilitate effective deliberations during the Assembly’s sittings.

Officials of the Electoral Commission are at the venue to supervise the voting, counting and declaration of the results.
The election is expected to conclude with the announcement of the successful candidate, who will subsequently assume responsibility for presiding over the Assembly’s proceedings.
Further updates, including the official results and reactions from Assembly members and stakeholders, will follow after the conclusion of the exercise.
