Mob Attacks Suspect After Foiled Robbery on Mobile Money Vendor in Gomoa Dabani

A suspected Fulani armed robber is battling for his life after he was beaten to a pulp by an angry mob at Gomoa Dabani in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region. The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect and an accomplice approached a mobile money vendor, identified as Millicent Inkoom, under the pretense of purchasing “mashup” airtime. In the course of the transaction, one of the suspects suddenly pulled out a firearm and ordered the vendor to hand over her handbag, which contained an undisclosed amount of money.

Startled by the attack, Millicent raised an alarm, drawing the attention of an ex-police officer and a group of young men in the community. Together, they pursued the suspects. The accomplice managed to escape, but the other suspect was apprehended by the mob.

The captured suspect was subjected to severe beatings until a police patrol team arrived at the scene and rescued him from the irate crowd. He was rushed to the Potsin Polyclinic, where he is currently receiving treatment under tight police guard.

Speaking to Ghone News’ Yaw Boagyan, Millicent expressed her profound gratitude for the swift intervention of the ex-police officer and the community youth, noting that their bravery not only saved her life but also ensured that her handbag and money were recovered.

Meanwhile, residents of Gomoa Dabani have raised concerns about the increasing spate of robbery incidents in the area. Reports suggest that the Gomoa East District Police Command is grappling with inadequate logistics, which hampers their ability to respond swiftly to crimes. Nevertheless, officers continue to assure the public of their commitment to ensuring safety and security within the district.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect’s accomplice, who is believed to be still at large.
