TaTU Students to Receive 50 Desktop Computers from Education Minister

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has pledged to present 50 desktop computers to the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) in the next 21 days to help address their Information and Communication Technology (ICT) needs.

Mr. Iddrisu gave the assurance during a visit to the University, where he interacted with students following recent agitations over fee hikes and the poor state of infrastructure in the university.

“Give the Ministry of Education the next 21 days and we will deliver these computers to enhance teaching and learning of ICT,” he said.

He said the computers would be installed at the University’s ICT laboratory to enhance practical teaching and learning, stressing that ICT education was critical in preparing students for the demands of today’s competitive job market.

The Minister acknowledged the students’ right to demand accountability and improved facilities and cautioned them against violent protests and the destruction of school property.

“You have every right to make your concerns known, but destroying the few facilities that exist in the school is counterproductive and only worsens the challenges you are already facing,” he emphasised.

He urged the students to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the government was taking the necessary steps to expand infrastructure, improve facilities, and create a conducive environment for effective academic work.

Mr. Iddrisu reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education, describing it as a key pillar in producing the skilled workforce required for the country’s industrialisation drive.

The students expressed appreciation to the government for the intervention and assured the Minister of their commitment to remain peaceful while stakeholders worked to address their concerns.
