There Won’t Be Any 24-Hour Economy In The Next Four Years – NPP Tells Ghanaians

The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has stated that Ghanaians should lower their expectations regarding the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s flagship campaign promise, the 24-hour economy.

According to him, there was an expectation that the government would implement the policy within the first 120 days in office. However, this has not materialized. He further noted that the policy was not captured in the government’s first budget statement, which, in his view, proves that the policy is a “hoax.”

“Sadly, we were hoping to see the NDC implement a 24-hour economy within the first 120 days in office and include it in their first budget statement. None of it is coming to fruition,” he said.

“I can state emphatically that in the next four years, we will not see a 24-hour economy with one job, three people, and three shifts. It will not happen. This shows the level of deception that the NDC engaged in during the electioneering period, it was all for votes and nothing more. I believe this NDC administration owes Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP an unqualified apology.”

Speaking at a press conference organized by the youth wing of the party, Salam also accused the ruling government of dismissing workers in the public sector.

He expressed concern over the move, stating that it contradicts the government’s promise to create jobs for the youth.

“Today, the very people who campaigned on a 24-hour economy to provide jobs for the youth are rather dismissive of workers. It is baffling,” he added.

He further alleged that NPP-affiliated individuals are being treated as second-class citizens, citing what he described as illegal arrests and raids on the homes of party officials.

“Most of our officials’ residences have been raided, and some have been arrested unlawfully,” Salam claimed.

In response to these developments, the youth wing of the NPP has pledged to reactivate its grassroots strategies, especially within tertiary institutions, to mobilize support and recapture power from the NDC in the next general election.

The party also assured Ghanaian youth, particularly those who have lost their jobs under the current administration, that they will not be forsaken.
