Two people sustained injuries on Sunday, December 28, following a renewed chieftaincy clash at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The violence, which occurred in front of the Gomoa Nyanyano chief’s palace, prompted swift intervention by the Central East Regional Police Command. More than 50 police officers and other security personnel have since been deployed to the area to restore calm and maintain law and order.

Gomoa Nyanyano has been plagued by prolonged chieftaincy tensions since the death of Nana Obeng Wiabo, with rival factions failing to resolve leadership disputes that have lingered for several years.

According to police sources, the latest confrontation erupted after one faction organised a float. When the procession entered Gomoa Nyanyano, the opposing faction reportedly mobilised and blocked the main road through the town in an attempt to stop it, leading to violent clashes and injuries.

Security remains tight in the township as authorities work to prevent further escalation and ensure peace.
