Volta Regional Police Intercept Ammunition Bound For Benin

The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted a large cache of ammunition on a commercial bus bound for Benin.

The operation occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police barrier.

According to a police statement, officers on duty conducted a routine search on a Hyundai passenger bus with registration number GR 8246-Q.

The vehicle, traveling from Accra to Benin, was found to be carrying 60 cartons of AAA cartridges (15,000 pieces) and 72 cartons of BB cartridges (18,000 pieces). The ammunition was concealed in sacks and hidden beneath passengers’ luggage.

The driver of the vehicle, Abasou Fousseni, 45, and his co-driver, Salisu Jalilu, 38, were both arrested for questioning. While both men initially denied knowledge of the concealed items, police intelligence pointed to the co-driver as the individual responsible for loading the illicit goods.

Following preliminary investigations, the driver was granted police enquiry bail to allow him to transport the passengers to their destination.

However, the co-driver remains in custody and is assisting with further investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
