Political Analyst Warns: Prophecy Review Office Could Spark Public Backlash

Renowned political analyst and economist, Mr. Alex Emmanuel Nti, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider plans to establish a Prophecy Review Office, warning that such a move could damage the government’s reputation and public approval.

In an exclusive interview with Adom Nanaa Odiasempa Paa Solo Savvy on Obrumankoma FM, he emphasized that the establishment of an office to review and determine the validity of prophecies would not only raise serious constitutional and religious freedom concerns but also expose the government to intense criticism from the public and faith-based organizations.

Mr. Nti argued that in a country where religion plays a central role in the lives of citizens, any attempt by the state to regulate or vet prophecies could be perceived as an infringement on religious liberty. “The government risks being labeled as intolerant and intrusive in matters of faith, which could lead to widespread resentment and unpopularity,” he cautioned.

He further advised that instead of setting up such an office, the government should focus on strengthening existing legal and institutional frameworks to deal with issues of public safety, misinformation, and national security that may arise from certain prophecies.

“The government must tread carefully on this matter. Religious issues are very sensitive in Ghana, and any misstep could erode public trust and divert attention from critical developmental policies,” Mr. Nti added.
