Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of CPP Speaks Out on BECE Results Cancellation

Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, the 2024 Flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Founder/Chief Executive Officer of CaringKids International, has expressed concern over the cancellation and withholding of results of some 2025 ВЕСЕ candidates.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, she stressed that the responsibility for ensuring the integrity of examinations lies with adults and institutions, not the children.

“If malpractice was widespread, conduct a re-exam. But punish the adults, the school heads and supervisors, not the pupils. Shift from punishment to prevention. Deploy Al-enabled leak detection, encrypted distribution, and stronger invigilator oversight. Commission an independent exam-security audit,” the statement read.

She further recommended reducing the BECE’S role as the sole gatekeeper for Senior High School placement, allowing continuous assessment to play a greater role.

She also called for greater transparency for families through clear timelines and a dedicated parent hotline.

“Let continuous assessment guide placement. BECE should never be the final determinant of whether a child progresses to SHS,” she said.

“Transparency for families is key. WAEC and GES must publish clear timelines for resolving withheld cases and open a hotline for parents,” the statement added.

“These are not just numbers. They are children, Ghana’s children. Their futures cannot be destroyed because of the failures of adults and institutions.” She stressed that basic education must be treated with fairness and care, adding: “Basic education is too basic for Ghana. Our discipline must guide us to correct, not destroy,” Nana Akosua Frimpomaa emphasised.

She also warned against the injustice of leaving students to “their fate” if they fail BECE due to systemic inefficiencies.

“No child should be left behind because of systemic failures and the responsibility lies with adults, not the pupils,” Nana Akosua Frimpomaa stressed.

According to WAEC, the results of 718 candidates have been cancelled, while the entire results of 177 candidates have been annulled for various forms of malpractice.
