The Gallant Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have called on President John Dramani Mahama to take bold steps to “reset” the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, describing the current leadership as “unfit for purpose.”
In a strongly worded statement signed by Comrade Richard E. A. Sarpong, popularly known as Father Casford and the National PRO of the Gallant Cadres, the group accused the EC, under the leadership of Jean Mensa, of failing the nation in its constitutional mandate to deliver free, fair, and credible elections.
The statement highlighted that Ghana continues to pay a heavy price for the failures of the Commission, citing the loss of eight lives during the 2020 general elections and a further seven during the just-ended 2024 elections. “How many more must die before urgent reforms are carried out?” the statement lamented.
The cadres further pointed to the disenfranchisement of an entire constituency during the 8th Parliament as evidence of the EC’s incompetence and disregard for democratic representation. “Jean Mensa and her team must go,” the statement declared, stressing that the survival of Ghana’s democracy depends on resetting the Commission with leadership that is credible, transparent, and accountable.
The group appealed to President Mahama to make electoral reforms a top priority, warning that the EC’s current trajectory poses a serious threat to the peace, stability, and democratic integrity of the country.

Jean Mensah and Co Must Go
Ghana needs to immediately reset the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
It is so sad that we lost 8 precious lives during the 2020 general elections, and another 7 lives during the just ended 2024 general elections.
Certainly, the current crop of leadership at EC is not fit for purpose.
A whole constituency were denied representation at the 8th Parliament.
