Henry Nana Boakye Demands Sack of NACOC, GACL Leadership Over Cocaine Trafficking Concerns

The National Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has called for the dismissal of the leadership of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) over what he describes as persistent failures to prevent cocaine trafficking through Ghana.

Mr Boakye made the demand during a press conference organised by the NPP, where he raised concerns about what he considers serious lapses in the country’s drug interdiction and border security systems.

He also questioned the effectiveness of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and National Security, accusing the institutions responsible for protecting Ghana’s ports, airports and other entry points of failing to prevent international drug trafficking networks from operating through the country.

According to him, the repeated cocaine trafficking incidents involving consignments linked to Ghana raise serious questions about the ability of the relevant security agencies to safeguard the country’s borders.

He specifically called for the removal of NACOC’s leadership and senior officials of GACL, including its Managing Director and Head of Security.

“The head of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), the leadership there, they must go. Ghana Airports Company Limited, they must go, the leadership there, from the MD to the head of security, they must all leave,” he said.

Cocaine Trafficking: NPP Official Questions Border Security

Mr Boakye’s comments follow the recent arrest of a Syrian national at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after he allegedly attempted to transport approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine from Ghana.

The incident has renewed concerns about Ghana’s role in international drug trafficking networks and the effectiveness of security checks at the country’s major entry and exit points.

Referencing the alleged trafficking activities, Mr Boakye accused the GPHA and National Security of failing to adequately discharge their responsibilities in preventing narcotics from entering or passing through Ghana.

“The Ghana Port and Harbours Authority and National Security are in charge with keeping cocaine out of our ports, our airports and our country. On their watch, Ghana has become the transit hub for international cartels. Ghana has become a haven. Ghana has become a very favourable zone for drug cartels. For drug barons,” he stated.

Henry Nana Boakye Criticises Mahama Government

The NPP National Second Vice Chairman also criticised President John Dramani Mahama, accusing his administration of failing to take decisive action against officials whose institutions have allegedly fallen short in the fight against drug trafficking.

He maintained that the repeated incidents required immediate accountability, insisting that officials responsible for the country’s drug control and border security arrangements should not remain in office.

“And the president is not doing anything about it. They have failed. They have failed repeatedly. And they must be sacked,” he added.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over international cocaine interceptions involving consignments reportedly linked to Ghana.

One of the notable incidents was the interception of nearly 3.9 tonnes of suspected cocaine at the Port of Dunkirk in France in September 2026, further intensifying scrutiny of Ghana’s efforts to combat international narcotics trafficking.

The latest calls by Mr Boakye have brought renewed attention to the performance of Ghana’s drug enforcement agencies and the need for stronger border surveillance, effective intelligence gathering and accountability in the fight against transnational organised crime.
