Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has hinted that midfielder Kwasi Sibo is likely to earn another call-up in October’s international window after leaving a strong impression on his debut for Ghana.
The 26-year-old Real Oviedo midfielder was handed a surprise start in Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium. Despite being a late addition to the squad, Sibo played the full 90 minutes and delivered a combative display as the Black Stars secured an important victory.
Reflecting on his performance, Addo praised the Spain-based midfielder for seamlessly adapting to the team’s rhythm and showing remarkable composure under pressure.
“First of all, big congrats to him. I think he really did well,” Addo said after the game. “It’s not easy to come from a different environment and fit into the squad, but he already knows a lot of the players, and that helped him connect well. He’s very confident, and I think he did extremely well, especially considering it was his first match. He’s a warrior throughout—you could see that.”
The Black Stars boss, however, stressed that Sibo’s continued inclusion in the national team will depend largely on his form at club level. “I think for the future, things will even get better. But like all players, his performance in his club will decide the next call-up. The next window is so close, and I’m pretty sure that he will be called again after this performance.”
Sibo has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past year, becoming a key figure at Real Oviedo. His commanding presence in midfield helped the club secure promotion to La Liga, and he has since featured in all three of their league matches in Spain’s top flight this season. His consistency at club level, coupled with his strong debut for Ghana, has sparked optimism that he could become a long-term option in Addo’s midfield setup.
Fans and pundits alike have praised Sibo for his ball-winning ability, physical presence, and tactical discipline—qualities that Ghana has been seeking in its midfield in recent years. With the Black Stars set to return to action in October, the midfielder’s name is already being tipped to feature prominently in the next squad announcement.
For now, all eyes will be on how Sibo continues his development in La Liga, where regular minutes and strong performances could cement his place as one of Ghana’s emerging midfield generals.
