The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ghana has confirmed the rescue of 44 Ghanaian nationals from a fraudulent recruitment network operating in Nigeria, renewing its warning to the public over human trafficking and deceptive job schemes.
In a press release issued in Accra on March 21, 2026, the Ministry disclosed that the victims had been lured abroad under false pretences, following earlier cautionary notices about the activities of so-called recruitment organisations, including schemes linked to “QNET”.
According to the statement, the affected individuals were recruited through misleading means, largely via social media platforms and informal channels, with promises of employment opportunities and international travel.
However, upon arrival in Nigeria, they were subjected to harsh and exploitative conditions.
“They were subjected to exploitative conditions, including restricted movement, psychological coercion, and pressure to recruit others into the scheme,” the Ministry stated.
According to the statement, the victims were rescued following a joint operation conducted on March 16, 2026, by Nigerian security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), working in collaboration with Ghanaian authorities.
They were subsequently repatriated and arrived in Accra on March 20, 2026.
Government officials say the operation forms part of broader efforts to dismantle transnational criminal networks engaged in human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment.
The Government of Ghana is currently working with its Nigerian counterparts and other stakeholders to ensure the protection and recovery of the rescued individuals.
Measures are being put in place to support their rehabilitation and reintegration into society, as authorities continue investigations into the networks responsible.
The Ministry also expressed gratitude to the Government of Nigeria for its swift intervention and continued cooperation in addressing the issue.
Reiterating its position, the government condemned in strong terms all forms of human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment practices.
It emphasised its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaian nationals, both within the country and abroad.
The Ministry has advised the public to exercise extreme caution when considering travel or employment opportunities, particularly those promoted through unofficial channels.
Citizens have been urged to verify all such opportunities through recognised and authorised institutions, and to avoid engaging with individuals or organisations whose credibility cannot be established.

Government reaffirmed it’s commitment to protecting Ghanaians wherever they may be, stressing that efforts to combat trafficking and exploitation will continue.
