Driver in Critical Condition After Container Falls on Mini Cargo Vehicle at Gomoa Biakoye

A mini cargo vehicle driver is battling for his life after a 20-foot container detached from a moving trailer and crushed his vehicle at Gomoa Biakoye, a suburb of Buduburam along the busy Kasoa–Winneba Highway in the Central Region.
The tragic accident occurred on Thursday morning at about 9:00 a.m., causing heavy traffic congestion and drawing a large crowd of shocked residents and motorists to the scene.
According to eyewitness accounts, the mini cargo vehicle was travelling toward Kasoa while the articulated truck carrying the container was heading in the opposite direction toward Winneba when the incident occurred.
Witnesses said the container suddenly became unstable and detached from the trailer before crashing onto the oncoming mini cargo vehicle, trapping the driver inside the mangled wreckage.
Residents, commercial drivers, and other commuters quickly rushed to assist in rescue efforts. After several minutes, they managed to pull the severely injured driver from the damaged vehicle before he was rushed to St. Gregory Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Medical sources indicate that the victim sustained multiple serious injuries, including broken legs and severe body trauma, and remains in critical condition.
The accident temporarily disrupted traffic flow along the highway as police officers and emergency personnel worked to clear the wreckage and restore normal movement.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the secure transportation of containers on major highways across Ghana, with many residents calling for stricter enforcement of safety regulations for heavy-duty trucks and articulated vehicles.
