MTN Ghana Donates GH¢2.5 Million Relief Items to Support Accra Flood Victims

MTN Ghana has announced a GH¢2.5 million donation of relief items to support families and individuals affected by the recent flooding that devastated several communities across Accra.

The humanitarian intervention, which will be carried out in partnership with the Multimedia Group and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), is aimed at providing immediate assistance to flood victims whose homes, livelihoods, and personal belongings were destroyed by the disaster.

The relief package includes a wide range of essential household items and food supplies designed to address the urgent needs of affected families. Beneficiaries will receive student mattresses, blankets, mosquito coils, mosquito repellents, rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, canned mackerel, sugar, spaghetti, and oats.

To promote hygiene and improve living conditions for displaced families, the donation will also include detergents, toiletries, and other sanitation essentials. Distribution of the items will be coordinated by NADMO to ensure that support reaches the hardest-hit communities efficiently and transparently.

Speaking on the initiative, MTN Ghana Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, expressed the company’s deep sympathy for those affected by the floods and reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to supporting communities during times of crisis.

“We are heartbroken by the devastation caused by the flooding. Many families have lost their homes, their belongings, and their sense of normal life,” Mr. Blewett said.

He added: “At MTN, we believe in standing with our communities, especially in difficult times. This support is our way of showing care, bringing some comfort, and reminding affected families that they are not alone as they begin the journey to rebuild.”

The recent torrential rains triggered widespread flooding across several parts of the Greater Accra Region, displacing hundreds of families, damaging homes and businesses, and creating an urgent need for food, shelter, healthcare, and other essential relief services.

MTN Ghana said its contribution is intended to complement the government’s ongoing emergency response and recovery efforts. By partnering with the Multimedia Group and NADMO, the telecommunications company aims to ensure that relief reaches vulnerable households quickly and effectively.

The initiative forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and community development, reflecting the company’s dedication to supporting Ghanaians during emergencies and contributing to national recovery efforts.

As affected communities begin the long process of rebuilding their lives, MTN Ghana expressed hope that the donation will provide much-needed relief, restore hope, and help families recover from the impact of the devastating floods.
