Mahama Appoints Dr Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as Acting Director-General of Value for Money Office

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as the Acting Director-General of the Value for Money Office (VfMO).

The appointment, announced by the Presidency in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, is in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 14(1) of the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172).

According to the Presidency, Dr Aziz-Bamba will serve in an acting capacity pending the receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.

Dr Aziz-Bamba brings an academic and legal background to the new role. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law, where he contributed to legal education and scholarship.

He is also a Harvard-trained lawyer, with expertise that is expected to support his responsibilities in overseeing an institution established to strengthen accountability and efficiency in the use of public resources.

The Value for Money Office was established to ensure that public expenditure achieves the intended outcomes and delivers measurable value to the Ghanaian taxpayer.

The Office is mandated to scrutinise public spending and assess whether government projects, programmes and expenditures provide value for money while serving the broader public interest.

Dr Aziz-Bamba’s appointment comes as the government continues efforts to strengthen public financial management, accountability and oversight of state expenditure.

As Acting Director-General, he will be expected to provide leadership to the Office as it carries out its mandate of promoting efficiency, transparency and responsible use of public funds.
