A new six-unit classroom block has been commissioned at Saltpond in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region, in a move aimed at improving teaching and learning conditions for pupils in the area.
The facility was officially commissioned by the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Yaw Eduamoah Okyere, together with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mfantseman, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mfantseman Constituency.
The project forms part of ongoing efforts to address educational infrastructure deficits and provide pupils with safe, modern and conducive learning environments.
The newly commissioned block comprises six fully furnished classrooms equipped to accommodate more pupils.
The project is expected to replace inadequate, dilapidated or overcrowded learning spaces that have previously affected the smooth delivery of education in the beneficiary community.
With the new facility, pupils and teachers are expected to enjoy improved classroom conditions, better sanitation and a safer environment for academic activities.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Yaw Eduamoah Okyere, underscored the importance of investing in basic education as the foundation for human capital development.
According to him, quality education at the foundational level is essential to preparing young people for future opportunities and contributing to the socio-economic development of communities.
He therefore urged the school authorities, traditional leaders, teachers, pupils and other stakeholders to develop a strong maintenance culture to protect the investment.
The Minister stressed that the responsibility of maintaining public infrastructure should not rest solely with government, urging beneficiaries to take ownership of the facility and ensure that it remains in good condition for generations to come.
The Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Hon. Dr. Ebenezer Prince Arhin also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to reduce the infrastructure deficit confronting schools within the constituency.
He said improving educational infrastructure remains critical to creating an enabling environment for pupils to learn effectively.
The MP further pledged continued support for teaching and learning materials as well as other community-based educational initiatives aimed at improving educational outcomes across the constituency.
The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, highlighted the Assembly’s determination to ensure that development projects are distributed equitably among communities within the municipality.
He explained that the provision of educational infrastructure forms part of the Assembly’s broader development agenda to improve the quality of life of residents and create opportunities for children in every community.
He called on residents and other stakeholders to support the Assembly in protecting public projects and ensuring that they deliver their intended benefits.
The commissioning was welcomed by traditional leaders, school authorities, teachers, parents and community members, who described the facility as an important intervention for education in the area.
Community stakeholders noted that improved classroom infrastructure could help ease congestion, encourage regular school attendance and create a more conducive atmosphere for academic work.
They expressed the hope that the new facility would contribute to improved learning outcomes and better performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The commissioning of the six-unit classroom block therefore represents another investment in basic education infrastructure in Mfantseman, with stakeholders expected to work together to ensure its effective use and long-term maintenance.
