Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians, the leadership and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), his parliamentary colleagues, family, friends and supporters for their solidarity following his detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
In a Facebook post on Saturday, October 3, the MP said he was “deeply grateful for the overwhelming support, prayers and solidarity” he received during the period.
He also thanked Ghanaians who, according to him, had “seen through the Government’s propaganda and stood firmly with me.”
Nana Baffour Awuah specifically expressed appreciation to NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s leadership and membership, his fellow Members of Parliament, as well as his family, friends and sympathisers.
His message follows his appearance before the High Court in connection with an ongoing EOCO investigation into alleged financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans.
The court granted the Manhyia South MP GH¢10 million bail with two sureties after he pleaded not guilty to three charges brought against him by EOCO. The sureties are the Members of Parliament for Bosome Freho and Effia.
The charges include conspiracy to commit intentional dissipation of funds, intentionally causing financial loss to the state and money laundering. The money-laundering allegation relates to an alleged GH¢1 million transfer to the then Managing Director of SIC Life in 2024.
Nana Baffour Awuah has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, has maintained that the MP’s involvement in the transaction arose from legitimate legal work undertaken for SIC Life.
The court directed the MP to remain available to investigators as the probe continues. He is expected to reappear before the court on October 26 and November 2, 2026.
