The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mfantseman, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, has inaugurated the Municipal Disability Fund Management Committee to strengthen suppport for persons with disabilities (PWDs) and ensure the effective management of resources allocated to their welfare.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, October 27, 2026, brought together members of the newly constituted committee and other stakeholders to formally induct them into their respective roles and responsibilities in overseeing the administration and effective utilisation of the Disability Fund.
The newly inaugurated committee comprises the following members:
Hon. Daniel Ebow Koomson – Chairman, Social Services Sub-Committee
Abena Serwaa Opare – Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (Secretary to the Committee)
Joseph Amissah – Representative, Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD)
Emilia Eyeson – Representative, Business Resource Centre (BRC)
Cecilia Arthur – Representative, Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD)
John Menyi – Representative, National Council on Persons with Disabilities
The committee is expected to play a crucial role in ensuring that resources allocated to persons with disabilities are managed transparently, responsibly and equitably to address the needs and challenges of beneficiaries across the municipality.
Its responsibilities will include identifying the priority needs of persons with disabilities, facilitating access to available support and ensuring that interventions under the fund contribute meaningfully to improving beneficiaries’ livelihoods and promoting their social and economic inclusion.
The committee is also expected to strengthen accountability in the disbursement and utilisation of the fund while ensuring that assistance reaches deserving beneficiaries in line with the objectives of the programme.
The inauguration forms part of the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly’s commitment to promoting the welfare, dignity and inclusion of persons with disabilities and ensuring that they have equal opportunities to participate in the development of their communities.
The Disability Fund remains an important government intervention designed to provide financial and material assistance to persons with disabilities, helping to address some of the barriers that limit their participation in social and economic activities.
The Assembly is expected to collaborate with the newly inaugurated committee and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the fund and maximise its benefits for persons with disabilities throughout the Mfantseman Municipality.
