Accounting to the People: Mfantseman Municipal Assembly Recruits 63 Permanent Sweepers to Boost Sanitation

The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly has recruited 63 permanent sweepers as part of measures to improve sanitation and promote a cleaner and healthier environment across the municipality.

The development was disclosed during the “Accounting to the People” programme held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the St. Peter and Paul Anglican Church in Saltpond, where the Assembly presented an account of its activities, achievements and ongoing development initiatives.

The programme, held under the theme “Ensuring Transparency and Accountability at the Local Level,” provided an opportunity for the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly to update residents and stakeholders on key interventions being implemented to address local development challenges.

Presenting the Assembly’s report, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Mfantseman, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, the Central Regional Minister, the Chairman for the occasion, Daasebre Kwabu Ewusi VII, the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, and other stakeholders for their support and participation in the programme.

As part of efforts to strengthen sanitation management in the municipality, the MCE said the Assembly had initiated an electoral-area-based clean-up exercise aimed at ensuring regular cleaning of communities and improving environmental conditions.

According to the MCE, the recruitment of 63 permanent sweepers forms part of the Assembly’s broader sanitation intervention, with the personnel expected to support routine sweeping and cleanliness in various electoral areas.

The initiative is also intended to complement existing sanitation efforts while encouraging residents to take greater responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings.

Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah noted that improving sanitation requires collaboration between the Assembly, residents, traditional authorities, businesses and other stakeholders.

The “Accounting to the People” programme therefore served not only as a platform to highlight the Assembly’s achievements but also as an avenue for engaging residents on development priorities and promoting greater transparency in local governance.

The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly is expected to continue working with relevant stakeholders to improve sanitation and other essential services across the municipality.
