Watch As Kejetia Traders Clash With Whip-Wielding KMA Officer Over Forced Eviction Attempt

A video of an intense confrontation between traders and a Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) official on the streets of Kejetia has surfaced on social media.

According to reports, the heated exchange resulted from an attempt by the whip-wielding taskforce member to evict traders who had displayed their wares on the streets.

The video shows several traders surrounding some KMA taskforce officers, insisting on their resolve to resist any attempt to remove them from the streets.

“What you are doing is not fine; we are all Ghanaians…” one trader is heard telling the taskforce members.

The confrontation follows recent comments by Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, alias King Zuba, who issued a two-week ultimatum to street traders in Kumasi’s Central Business District, threatening public flogging for non-compliance, in an attempt to clear the pavements.

After backlash from Amnesty International, some women groups, and some politicians over what they say is the violation of human rights, the Kumasi Mayor retracted the threat on April 16, opting for legal action instead.

He also announced that from May 1, stray cattle causing accidents and sanitation issues would be slaughtered and donated to Kumasi Central Prison.
