Hundreds of supporters and sympathisers on Friday, July 3, thronged principal streets of Kumasi as leaders of a newly formed political group, The Base Movement, staged a public procession to introduce the movement to residents and mobilise support.
The procession, which snaked through some of the busiest streets in the Ashanti Regional capital, attracted large crowds as participants marched with banners and placards while engaging members of the public.
Addressing the media ahead of the event, the Chief Operations Coordinator of The Base Movement, Jacob Osei Yeboah, said the group is legally registered and headquartered at Tesano in Accra.
He said the movement had been “fully restructured and unshakably united”, adding that leadership was aware of what he described as attempts by political opponents to create divisions within its ranks.
He stated that such efforts would not succeed, noting that all internal legal disputes were resolved in May 2026 after being formally withdrawn and settled with individuals who were previously associated with the Base Ghana First faction.
To further strengthen internal cohesion, Mr Yeboah said all previously existing individual positions within the movement had been dissolved as part of a broader restructuring process aimed at eliminating internal tensions.
He added that the movement’s financiers, led by founder Dr George Oti Bonsu, together with other key actors, were now operating as a single, unified force committed to advancing the group’s objectives.
Leaders of the movement used the exercise to engage traders, commuters and residents, explaining the group’s identity, vision and objectives. They also distributed information about the movement and encouraged the public to learn more about its activities.
The procession drew the attention of motorists and pedestrians, with many stopping to observe the march as it passed through the city’s commercial centres.
According to organisers, the event formed part of the movement’s maiden public engagement campaign aimed at creating awareness of its existence and establishing a presence in the Ashanti Region.
They said the outreach marked the beginning of a broader engagement strategy that would see the movement interact with communities across the country as it seeks to build public support and expand its membership.
Although the movement is newly formed, its leadership expressed optimism that sustained engagement with citizens would help communicate its vision and attract more supporters in the coming months.
The Kumasi procession is expected to be followed by similar public outreach activities in other parts of the country as The Base Movement continues its efforts to introduce itself to Ghanaians.
