Ghana Gas to Install Third Compressor to Boost Gas Supply and Operational Capacity

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company, Judith Adjobah Blay, has revealed that her outfit has received commitment authorisation to procure and install a third compressor to help sustain its gas processing operation.

She made the disclosure during a tour by the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy of the Atuabo Gas Processing plant in the Western Region.

The third compressor when installed would address the frequent trips in Ghana Gas’ operations and also serve as backup for the existing compressors in times of emergencies.

“We just got a commitment authorisation to construct the third compressor. We have gone really far with it. We are hoping that by the end of the third quarter, we would have finished the procurement process and identified a contractor,” she said.

The tour of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant by the Parlimentary Select Committee on Energy was to enable members obtain firsthand information on the plant’s processing and production of lean gas and its associated products.

Members also received briefing on the recent shutdown due to a fault which has since been fixed, according the Chief Executive who briefed the visiting committee.

The Chairman of Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah after the Ghana Gas tour commended the staff of Ghana Gas and assured of the Committee’s advocacy in laws and issues that would enhance their operations.

“The assurance I can give to the management and staff is that we will do whatever is needful for the laws that applies to them to be fully utilised,” he said.

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy also toured the VRA plant at the Aboadze Thermal plant where Chairman stated their mission.

The Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority, Ing. Edward Obeng Kenzo who received the committee briefed them on plans to add over a thousand megawatts plant.

“We are hopeful that we will get the full combine cycle by the end of 2027,” he said.
