The President of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Kormantse, Rev. Dr. John Kobina Boakye, has called on Ghanaians to refrain from politicising discussions surrounding LGBTQ+ issues, urging a united national approach to what he described as a pressing social concern.
According to Rev. Dr. Boakye, the matter should not be viewed through partisan lenses, but rather addressed collectively in the interest of the country’s moral and cultural values. He emphasised the need for citizens to contribute constructively toward resolving the issue, warning that divisive political narratives could undermine meaningful engagement.
He further appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to give the subject the same level of attention as other critical national challenges. In his view, a coordinated and deliberate response from leadership is essential to addressing concerns raised by sections of the public.
Rev. Dr. Boakye also reiterated that LGBTQ+ practices are inconsistent with Ghana’s religious teachings, cultural norms, and traditional values, stressing that these perspectives should guide national discourse and policy considerations.
His comments add to ongoing national conversations about LGBTQ+ rights, governance, and the role of cultural and religious beliefs in shaping public policy in Ghana.
