The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, popularly known as Mfantseman KK, has handed over 630 school desks to the Mfantseman Municipal Education Directorate as part of efforts to address furniture shortages and improve learning conditions in basic schools across the municipality.
The intervention is expected to help reduce classroom congestion, replace worn-out furniture and provide pupils with a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
630 Desks for Basic Schools
The furniture comprises 350 mono desks, 250 dual desks and 30 hexagonal desks, designed to meet the needs of pupils at different levels of basic education.
- 350 Mono Desks: For upper primary and junior high school pupils, particularly for individual learning and assessment.
- 250 Dual Desks: To increase seating capacity in schools experiencing high demand.
- 30 Hexagonal Desks: Designed primarily for early childhood and kindergarten classrooms to promote group learning and interaction.

Intervention Follows Consultations With Schools
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah said the intervention followed concerns raised during his recent consultative engagements across the four educational zones in the Mfantseman Municipality.
According to the MCE, teachers and school managers identified inadequate classroom furniture as one of the pressing challenges affecting teaching and learning.

He said the Assembly had therefore prioritised the provision of desks as part of its efforts to respond to the most urgent educational needs identified during the engagements.
Hon. Acquah also expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the central government for what he described as their commitment to fulfilling campaign promises and prioritising education.
He assured residents that the Municipal Assembly would continue to address educational challenges based on urgency, need and expected impact.
Education Directorate Hails Intervention
Receiving the furniture on behalf of the beneficiary schools, the Mfantseman Municipal Education Director, Mr. Ransford Appiah, commended the MCE, the Member of Parliament and the Municipal Assembly for the intervention.
Mr. Appiah described the distribution as a significant milestone for education in the municipality, noting that it was the largest single furniture intervention the Directorate had recorded since its establishment.

“Since the establishment of the Mfantseman Educational Directorate, this stands as the single largest furniture distribution to our schools,” Mr. Appiah said.
He added that recent interventions in the education sector had exceeded expectations and expressed appreciation to the stakeholders involved.
The Municipal Education Director assured stakeholders that the Directorate would ensure the desks were distributed fairly, transparently and equitably to schools with the greatest need.
Education Director Appeals for More Teachers
While welcoming the intervention, Mr. Appiah stressed that educational needs in the municipality continue to evolve as school enrolment increases.
He therefore appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders to sustain their support for schools to address outstanding infrastructure and furniture needs.
He also called on the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post additional teachers to the Mfantseman Municipality, particularly in areas where schools are experiencing shortages in key subject areas.
According to him, addressing both infrastructure and staffing challenges will be critical to improving teaching and learning outcomes across basic schools in the municipality.
