The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman, Hon. Dr. Ebenezer Prince Arhin, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, have presented financial assistance and assorted equipment to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality under government support initiative aimed at improving their livelihoods and promoting economic independence.

The beneficiaries received various forms of assistance, including cash support and equipment to help them establish or expand small businesses, engage in farming and other income-generating activities, and improve their living conditions.

The distribution formed part of the government’s initiative to support Persons with Disabilities through the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), with the items and financial assistance provided in line with the funds available to the respective assemblies.

A total of 23 beneficiaries received financial support, while others received equipment tailored to their needs and economic activities.

The items distributed included 25 chest freezers, one hair dryer, one water-pumping machine for farming, one laptop, one vegetable-grinding machine and a motorbike.

MP Urges PWDs to Register with Social Welfare

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Mfantseman MP, Hon. Dr. Ebenezer Prince Arhin, expressed appreciation for the government initiative, describing the support as an opportunity to improve the livelihoods of Persons with Disabilities.

He encouraged all eligible PWDs in the municipality who had not yet registered with the Social Welfare Department to do so to enable them to access the initiative and benefit from future support.

Hon. Arhin also urged beneficiaries to use the money and equipment for their intended purposes to help them become economically productive and financially independent.

He stressed that the assistance was specifically meant for the beneficiaries and should not be diverted to other people or purposes.

“The money and the items are for the PWDs, not the caregivers,” he emphasised.

The MP further appealed to the public to desist from ridiculing, mocking or discriminating against Persons with Disabilities, urging residents to treat them with dignity, respect and compassion.

He underscored the importance of creating an inclusive society in which persons with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in economic and social activities.

MCE Acknowledges President Mahama

The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, acknowledged President John Dramani Mahama for the government’s efforts to mobilise resources to support Persons with Disabilities and improve their welfare.

He called on the beneficiaries to make effective use of the financial assistance and equipment provided, stressing that the items were intended to support their livelihoods and economic activities.

Hon. Acquah cautioned that beneficiaries who diverted the support from its intended purpose could face the consequences prescribed under the laws and regulations governing the initiative.

He reiterated the importance of registering with the Social Welfare Department, encouraging eligible Persons with Disabilities who had not yet registered to complete the process to improve their chances of benefiting from government support.

The initiative is intended to provide practical assistance to Persons with Disabilities, enabling them to pursue economic opportunities, strengthen their businesses and contribute to the development of their communities.

The presentation forms part of broader efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable groups and promote economic inclusion at the local level.
