Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that Ghana’s monetary policy rate has declined, while the Ghana cedi has recorded a strong appreciation of 40.7% against the US dollar, reflecting what he described as improving macroeconomic stability.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, Dr. Forson said the government’s fiscal and monetary policy measures are beginning to yield positive results, contributing to lower inflationary pressures, increased confidence in the economy, and a stronger local currency.
According to the Finance Minister, the decline in the monetary policy rate is expected to support lower borrowing costs, encourage private sector investment, and stimulate economic growth. He added that the significant appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar demonstrates renewed confidence in Ghana’s economy and the effectiveness of ongoing economic reforms.
Dr. Forson noted that the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, prudent public financial management, and close collaboration with the Bank of Ghana has played a key role in stabilising the economy.
The Finance Minister made these remarks while presenting the government’s 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, outlining the country’s economic performance and the measures being implemented to sustain growth and maintain macroeconomic stability.
