The National Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cancelled the Mfantseman Constituency Executive elections held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Center Organisation for Sports (COS Park).
The decision was communicated in a statement dated Thursday, August 13, 2026, and signed by the Acting National Chairman of the NPP, Danquah Buttey Smith. The statement, addressed to the Mfantseman Constituency Chairman and the Constituency Elections Committee, formally nullified the election on behalf of the National Secretariat.
According to the statement, the election was conducted without the knowledge or authorization of key party authorities, including the NPP National Headquarters, the Regional Chairman, the Constituency Chairman and the Constituency Elections Committee.
“The Office of the Ag. National Chairman writes on behalf of the National Secretariat to formally inform your outfit that the election recently conducted in the Mfantsiman Constituency has been cancelled.”
The National Secretariat explained that the circumstances surrounding the election constituted a serious breach of the party’s established procedures and directives governing the conduct of constituency-level elections.
Consequently, the election has been declared null and void and cancelled with immediate effect.
Regional Research Officer Suspended
The NPP Acting National Chairman has also directed the immediate suspension of the Regional Research Officer, Professor Enoch Duodu allegedly linked to the unauthorized conduct of the election.
The officer has further been referred to the party’s Disciplinary Committee for investigation and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the NPP’s rules and regulations.
The statement said:
“In view of the circumstances surrounding the unauthorized conduct of the election, the Ag. National Chairman has ordered that the Research Officer of the Region should be suspended immediately and referred to the Disciplinary Committee for further investigations and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the Party’s rules and regulations.”
Fresh Election to Be Announced
The National Secretariat assured stakeholders that a fresh directive on the conduct of a properly authorized constituency election would be issued in due course.
The directive, according to the statement, will include the new date and other arrangements necessary for the organization of the election.
The development comes after the Mfantseman Constituency held its executive elections on Wednesday, August 12, with results emerging for the various executive positions.
However, the National Secretariat has now invalidated the entire exercise, citing the absence of authorization and the failure to comply with the party’s established procedures.
The party has consequently urged all stakeholders, aspirants and delegates to remain calm and strictly adhere to official directives as arrangements are made for a new election.
The statement emphasized that adherence to the party’s procedures is necessary to safeguard the integrity, transparency and orderly conduct of the NPP’s internal elections.
