Drilling Boreholes Key to Solving Mfantseman Water Crisis — Paramount Chief Urges Government

The Paramount Chief (Omanhen) of the Mankessim Traditional Area and President of the Mankessim Traditional Council, Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, has called on the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, the Member of Parliament for the area, and the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to prioritise the drilling of boreholes to help resolve the persistent water crisis in the Mfantseman Municipality.
According to the Omanhen, the drilling of boreholes remains one of the most practical and sustainable measures to ensure reliable access to potable water, especially in the face of unpredictable rainfall patterns and the effects of climate change.
He made this appeal during a courtesy call by the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, at his palace in Mankessim. The visit formed part of ongoing stakeholder engagements aimed at finding lasting solutions to the acute water shortage that has plagued communities within the Mfantseman Municipality for several months.
Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI stressed that while efforts by government and the Ghana Water Company to rehabilitate and expand existing water supply systems are commendable, there is an urgent need to complement such initiatives with the provision of boreholes in affected communities.
“This situation calls for immediate and practical interventions. Boreholes will serve as a reliable alternative source of water for households, schools, and healthcare facilities, especially during dry spells and unforeseen supply interruptions,” he stated.
The Omanhen further urged the Ministry and local authorities to work closely with the traditional council to identify strategic locations for drilling to ensure equitable distribution of water resources across the municipality.
He expressed appreciation to Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei and the MP, Hon. Ebenezer Prince Arhin for their commitment and proactive steps in engaging local stakeholders and assured him of the traditional council’s full support in efforts to improve access to clean water for the people of Mfantseman.
