President Mahama Announces Special Scholarship Programme for Muslim Students on Eid ul-Adha

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a new initiative aimed at supporting Muslim youth in their pursuit of higher education, as Muslims across Ghana and the world mark Eid ul-Adha today, June 6, 2025.
Addressing a large gathering during Eid prayers at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, President Mahama directed the Director-General of the Scholarship Secretariat to establish a dedicated scholarship programme specifically for Muslim students aspiring to study medicine, law, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and engineering.
A video snippet shared on GHOne TV’s X page captured the President—elegantly dressed and standing before a diverse congregation—emphasising the government’s commitment to inclusive development through education.
“This initiative is to empower all segments of the population to propel national development,” President Mahama stated, highlighting the critical role of education in addressing historical inequalities and creating opportunities across all communities.
The announcement was met with widespread appreciation from the Muslim community, many of whom welcomed the President’s commitment to equity on such a spiritually significant occasion.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu; former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Second Lady Samira Bawumia; and several other government officials and religious leaders.
The scholarship programme is expected to open new doors for talented Muslim students and bolster national progress in key professional sectors.
