Frederick Yaw Berchie, popularly known as Wofa Yaw, has been declared the newly elected Mfantseman Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the party’s internal executive elections held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The results were officially declared by the Returning Officer for the election, Mr John Nunoo, after the completion of the voting and counting process at the Centre for Organisation for Sports (COS Park) at Kormantse.
According to the certified results, Wofa Yaw secured an overwhelming 1,019 votes, defeating the incumbent Constituency Chairman, who polled 208 votes.
A total of 1,227 valid votes were recorded, while 11 ballots were rejected.
The result gives Frederick Yaw Berchie a decisive victory and places him at the helm of the NPP’s organisational affairs in the Mfantseman Constituency.
Speaking after the declaration of the results, the newly elected chairman expressed concern over the absence of his main contender, the incumbent constituency chairman, from the voting centre during the election.
Wofa Yaw, however, stressed the need for unity within the party following the conclusion of the internal elections.
He called on the newly elected executives, outgoing executives, party faithful and supporters to put the contest behind them and work together to strengthen the party’s structures in the constituency.
According to him, the immediate task is to unite the party and mobilise its members towards reclaiming the Mfantseman parliamentary seat for the NPP.
He urged all factions and supporters to see the election as an internal democratic exercise rather than a basis for division, emphasising that the party’s collective interest must remain paramount.
The election was held at the COS Park at Kormantse following the lifting of an injunction that had previously stalled the Mfantseman Constituency executive elections.
The successful conclusion of the exercise is expected to pave the way for the new constituency executives to begin their mandate and reorganise the party ahead of the next general election.
