Barcelona Eye Thomas Partey as Key Midfield Reinforcement

Barcelona are reportedly closing in on the signing of Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, who is expected to leave Arsenal as a free agent at the end of June.

The 32-year-old has declined a contract extension with the Gunners and is eager to return to Spain, where he previously featured for Atlético Madrid. His desire to remain in top-flight European football has made a move to Barcelona particularly attractive.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, negotiations between Barcelona and Partey’s representatives have advanced significantly.

Having already secured Joan Garcia and nearing deals for Nico Williams and Roony Bardghji, the Catalan giants have now turned their attention to strengthening their midfield with Partey’s experience and leadership.

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, is reportedly a strong proponent of the move, citing Partey’s physicality, tactical intelligence, and Champions League experience as crucial qualities for the squad.

The potential free transfer also fits well within Barcelona’s current financial strategy, offering a budget-friendly means of adding both depth and quality.

While the midfielder has attracted interest from clubs across Europe and the Middle East, Barcelona are said to be in pole position. A formal offer is expected in the coming days, with the club aiming to finalise the deal before the start of pre-season.
