Ghanaian defender Marvin Senaya has returned to competitive football after spending 120 days on the sidelines recovering from a hamstring injury.

The 25-year-old made his first appearance of the 2026/27 season for French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre on Sunday, November 1, coming off the bench in their 5-1 defeat to Strasbourg.

Senaya was introduced in the 63rd minute and featured for the remaining 27 minutes as he marked his return to competitive action.

The defender had been sidelined since sustaining the injury during Ghana’s Round of 32 encounter against Colombia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on July 3.

He was forced off after just 13 minutes, bringing his World Cup campaign to an unfortunate end after featuring in all four of Ghana’s matches at the tournament.

Following the injury, Senaya underwent hamstring surgery in Paris before beginning his rehabilitation programme with Auxerre.

His return represents a significant boost for both his French club and the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, as he looks to regain full match fitness and re-establish himself in competitive football.

Senaya’s comeback also comes at a crucial time for Ghana, with the Black Stars scheduled to face Somalia in a doubleheader in mid-November as part of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

His recovery and return to regular action will be closely monitored as Ghana continues its preparations for the upcoming international fixtures.
