The Omankrado of the Anomabo Traditional Area, Nana Offesah XV, has called on the government to treat the fight against drug abuse with the same level of seriousness and urgency as the national campaign against illegal mining (galamsey).

According to him, drug abuse among the youth has become a growing menace in many communities, with several young people now forming groups and engaging in the use of dangerous substances that destroy their lives and the moral fabric of society.

Speaking in an interview with Agyei Kwaku Mensah, Nana Offesah XV expressed deep concern over the rate at which drug use is spreading among the youth. He noted that many of them often resort to criminal and immoral acts to finance their drug habits.

“The youth need money to buy these drugs, and after taking them, they also need money to buy food. When they don’t have money, they turn to all kinds of social vices just to survive,” he lamented.

He warned that if leaders and stakeholders fail to act swiftly, the problem of drug abuse could soon become as widespread and uncontrollable as galamsey. Nana Offesah XV, therefore, urged government, traditional authorities, and religious leaders to join forces in raising awareness and enforcing strict measures to curb the growing trend.

On her part, the Omankrado Hemaa of Anomabo, Nana Brubah VII, advised young girls to guard against teenage pregnancy and focus on their education.

“When a boy impregnates you, he will continue his education, but for nine months, you’ll be the one left to suffer,” she cautioned.

Nana Brubah VII encouraged the girls to remain disciplined and determined to secure a better future for themselves through education and hard work.

The chiefs reiterated their commitment to supporting government and community initiatives aimed at youth development and moral education in the Anomabo Traditional Area.
