New Town Building Collapse: Social Welfare Department to Provide Psychological Support to Victims — Gender Ministry

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has officially expressed its “deep sadness” following the catastrophic building collapse in Accra New Town on Sunday, 29th March 2026.

In a formal statement issued on Monday, the Minister, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, extended profound condolences to families who lost loved ones and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those who sustained injuries in the disaster.

Moving beyond expressions of sympathy, the ministry announced a targeted intervention plan to assist those traumatised by the event. The Social Welfare Department has been tasked with providing comprehensive psychosocial support to survivors and bereaved families in the coming days.

This intervention is designed to address the immediate mental health needs of victims as they navigate the aftermath of the collapse.

While commending the “swift response” of emergency services and local volunteers who worked to rescue trapped individuals, the ministry issued a stern reminder regarding infrastructure safety.

Dr. Lartey underscored the absolute necessity of adhering to established safety standards and building regulations to protect human lives and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
