The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, has emphasised that the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure programme goes beyond the construction of roads, highlighting its role in building the capacity of local contractors.
According to him, the initiative is designed not only to accelerate infrastructure delivery but also to equip Ghanaian contractors with the technical expertise and experience needed to handle large-scale projects independently.
Mr Agbodza noted that strengthening local capacity remains a key component of the policy, as it seeks to reduce reliance on foreign firms and promote the growth of indigenous construction companies.
He added that by investing in the development of local contractors, the programme aims to create sustainable opportunities for the next generation, while ensuring that more value from infrastructure spending is retained within the Ghanaian economy.
