40-Day Observation of Late Kantamanto Amonu XI Set for May 1–2 in Anomabo

The Anomabo Traditional Council, in collaboration with the Anona Royal Family, has officially announced plans to hold the 40-day observation of the late Kantamanto Amonu XI, Omanhen of the Anomabo Traditional Area.

The solemn two-day commemoration is scheduled for Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Omanhen’s Palace in Anomabo in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Ghana’s Central Region. The event is expected to attract traditional leaders, dignitaries, residents, and members of the public who wish to pay their respects and honour the legacy of the late paramount chief.

In a statement, the organizers extended a humble invitation to the general public to participate fully in the observation, urging attendees to do so in a manner that reflects the dignity, customs, and traditions of the Anomabo people.

PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES

Day 1 – Friday, May 1, 2026

Activities will commence with a ceremonial float celebrating customs and traditions, followed by church services to offer prayers and thanksgiving in honour of the late Omanhen.

Day 2 – Saturday, May 2, 2026

The final day will feature the signing of a book of condolences by sympathisers and invited guests, culminating in the main 40-day observation rites.

The 40-day observation is a significant cultural and spiritual milestone in many Ghanaian traditions, symbolising remembrance, transition, and the celebration of a leader’s life and service to the community.

The late Kantamanto Amonu XI is remembered for his leadership and contributions to the development of the Anomabo Traditional Area. Further details about the final funeral rites are expected to be communicated in due course.
