Head-On Collision Between Two Trailers at Mankessim Roundabout Leaves One Seriously Injured

A serious road accident involving two heavy-duty trailers has left one person critically injured at the Mankessim roundabout in the Central Region.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, involved a head-on collision between a trailer with registration number WR 2601-21 and another with registration number GT 5505-23.

Reports gathered by NewsAfricaGhana.com indicate that the WR 2601-21 trailer, loaded with floor tiles, was travelling from Takoradi towards Accra. The second trailer, GT 5505-23, was also en route from Winneba heading towards Takoradi when the crash occurred near the busy roundabout.

According to preliminary accounts, the driver of one of the vehicles, identified only as Yussif, survived the crash.

Eyewitnesses say the impact of the collision was severe, causing significant damage to one vehicle and bringing traffic to a temporary standstill.

Personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service were swiftly deployed to the scene to manage traffic flow and prevent further incidents along the stretch.

An eyewitness, Enoch Ghartey, who spoke to NewsAfricaGhana’s Solomon Kobina Acquah Savvy, attributed the accident to rising tension and possible frustration between the two drivers prior to the crash.

He further commended the driver of the WR 2601-21 trailer for his quick thinking, noting that he reportedly jumped from the passenger side moments before the collision. The driver, however, sustained multiple injuries, particularly to his left leg, and was rushed to Mercy Women’s Catholic Hospital for medical attention.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the accident, but investigations are expected to commence to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.

Motorists using the Mankessim stretch have been advised to exercise caution as clearance efforts continue.
