The Aboradze Ebusuapanyin of Ajumako, Ebusuapanyin Kobina Eghan Mankata, has officially launched the Nana Mankata Awards, an initiative aimed at recognizing and celebrating individuals who have demonstrated exceptional selflessness and commitment to the development of Ajumako.

The launch took place during this year’s Ahobaa Festival, a significant cultural event held in honour of Egya Ahor, who, according to local history, willingly offered himself as a sacrifice to save the Fante people from a devastating pandemic.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs, elders, youth, and residents gathered to commemorate the heroic legacy of Agya Ahor, Nana Kobina Eghan Mankata explained that the Nana Mankata Awards were established to acknowledge and encourage citizens whose dedication and voluntary service continue to contribute to the progress of Ajumako.

According to him, the official launch marks the beginning of a long-term recognition programme, with the main awards ceremony scheduled to take place during the annual Akwanbo Festival in August.

“As a community, we must celebrate and appreciate those who sacrifice their time, energy, and resources for the collective good of Ajumako. Their contributions inspire others and strengthen our sense of unity and development,” he stated.

Ten Outstanding Citizens Recognised

As part of the launch, ten distinguished citizens were honoured for their unwavering commitment to community development and active participation in various social, cultural, and developmental activities within Ajumako.

Nana Mankata noted that the awardees have consistently supported initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of residents and promoting the growth of the town. He described them as role models whose dedication deserves public recognition.

He emphasized that while the ten individuals were acknowledged during the launch, a larger group of deserving citizens would be formally honoured during the Akwanbo Festival celebration in August.

DCE Commends Community Spirit

The District Chief Executive for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Hon. Andrew Kojo Dodoo, commended the people of Ajumako for preserving and promoting their cultural heritage through the Ahobaa Festival.

He encouraged residents to make next year’s celebration even bigger and more impactful while highlighting the Assembly’s commitment to accelerating development across the district.

Hon. Dodoo outlined plans by the Assembly to complete ongoing projects inherited from previous administrations and initiate new infrastructure and social intervention projects that will enhance the status of Ajumako as the district capital.

Youth Urged to Emulate Agya Ahor’s Sacrifice

Also speaking at the event, Ebusuapanyin Krobia Asante Aidoo and the Aboradze Mbrantsehen Kofi Nimoh, educated participants on the history and significance of the Ahobaa Festival.

They urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from the life of Agya Ahor, whose courage, patriotism, and selfless sacrifice continue to serve as a symbol of dedication and service to society.

The Ahobaa Festival remains one of Ajumako’s most cherished traditional celebrations, preserving the memory of Agya Ahor while promoting unity, cultural identity, and community development among the people.
