The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly has elected Hon. Eshun Ibraham as its new Presiding Member (PM), following an overwhelming victory in an election held at the Assembly Hall on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Hon. Ibraham, who was the sole candidate in the election, secured 49 out of the 51 votes cast, representing approximately 96 per cent of the valid votes, to assume the leadership of the Assembly’s legislative proceedings.

His decisive election gives him a strong mandate to preside over meetings of the Assembly, coordinate legislative deliberations and promote effective collaboration among Assembly Members in pursuit of development within the Mfantseman Municipality.

The election was conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission (EC) in accordance with the procedures governing the election of Presiding Members of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.

Addressing the Assembly after the results were officially declared, Hon. Eshun Ibraham expressed his appreciation to the Assembly Members for the confidence and trust reposed in him.

He described his election as a collective mandate and pledged to work with all Assembly Members, regardless of their electoral areas or individual differences, to advance the development agenda of the Municipality.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence you have placed in me today. I assure every Honourable Member that we will work hand in hand to champion the development and progress of the Mfantseman Municipality, the Central Region, and Ghana at large.”

The newly elected Presiding Member pledged to adopt an inclusive and collaborative leadership style, stressing that unity, mutual respect and cooperation among Assembly Members would be essential to achieving meaningful and sustainable development.

He is expected to work closely with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Assembly Members, traditional authorities, government institutions and other stakeholders to address the developmental needs of communities across the municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Mfantseman, Hon. Eric Stanley Acquah, welcomed the election and expressed optimism that the appointment of a Presiding Member would contribute to the smooth and effective functioning of the Assembly.

He described the prolonged absence of a Presiding Member as a significant challenge for the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, particularly in ensuring the smooth coordination of Assembly sittings and legislative business.

According to the MCE, the successful election of Hon. Ibraham therefore marks an important development for the Assembly and presents an opportunity to strengthen its operations.

He said the Assembly was now in a better position to carry out its legislative responsibilities and deliberate effectively on matters relating to the development and welfare of residents in the Municipality.

Hon. Acquah congratulated the newly elected Presiding Member and expressed confidence that his leadership would foster greater unity and cooperation among Assembly Members.

He further called on all members to support the new Presiding Member and work together in the collective interest of Mfantseman.

The election is expected to strengthen the Assembly’s legislative processes and enhance coordination between its various stakeholders as it continues to pursue development initiatives across the Municipality.
