MTN Ghana Marks 30 Years with Nationwide Healthcare Boost Under 2026 21 Days of Y’ello Care Campaign

As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, MTN Ghana has reinforced its commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the country by refurbishing 3,888 hospital beds and essential medical equipment under the 2026 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign.

The nationwide initiative, implemented in partnership with DOSH Foundation, Sika Pɛ Adwuma Co. Ltd., and seven major health facilities, is expected to improve patient care, ease pressure on healthcare workers, and support Ghana’s efforts to address the persistent “no-bed syndrome.”

Refurbishing Critical Hospital Equipment

MTN employee volunteers repaired and restored hospital-owned medical equipment, including hospital beds, ward screens, drip stands, metallic cabinets, and three-in-one patient chairs.

The refurbished equipment has been distributed to seven beneficiary hospitals:

  • Achimota Hospital
  • Maamobi General Hospital
  • Korle Bu Teaching Hospital
  • Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital
  • Ho Teaching Hospital
  • Tamale Teaching Hospital
  • Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital

The intervention is expected to extend the lifespan of critical hospital assets while significantly improving patient comfort and healthcare service delivery.

Promoting Hygiene in Schools Nationwide

Beyond healthcare facilities, MTN Ghana expanded its impact through a nationwide Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme in schools across all 16 regions.

The initiative reached 16 basic schools, where employee volunteers installed 30 handwashing facilities and provided hygiene education to more than 15,000 pupils, helping to promote healthier learning environments.

Community Health Outreach

As part of the campaign, MTN employee volunteers, working alongside healthcare professionals, organised free health screening exercises in communities and institutions nationwide.

Beneficiaries included correctional facilities, markets, fishing communities, schools, hospitals, polyclinics and community centres across the country, bringing preventive healthcare services closer to thousands of Ghanaians.

MTN’s 30-Year Legacy of Impact

Speaking during the national handover ceremony at Achimota Hospital on June 26, 2026, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Wiafe, said the project reflected the company’s desire to ensure its three decades in Ghana leave a lasting impact on people’s lives.

“As we planned this year’s Y’ello Care programme, we asked ourselves a simple question: What does 30 years in Ghana truly mean if it does not show up in the lives of the people we serve? That question shaped everything we decided to do,” she said.

She revealed that MTN had originally targeted the refurbishment of 3,000 hospital beds and accessories, but exceeded the goal by refurbishing 3,888 items through the dedication of employee volunteers and the technical expertise of implementation partner Sika Pɛ Adwuma Co. Ltd.

According to her, the initiative directly responds to Ghana’s long-standing no-bed syndrome by restoring equipment already owned by hospitals, allowing more patients to receive quality care.

Supporting Patients Beyond Hospital Equipment

Mrs. Wiafe noted that the campaign extended beyond infrastructure improvements.

Through its partnership with the DOSH Foundation, MTN Ghana paid the medical bills of 70 patients who had been detained in hospitals because they could not settle their bills. Each beneficiary was also enrolled onto a health insurance package worth GH¢9,000.

In addition, employee volunteers organised health outreaches in 16 communities, combining health education, screenings and preventive care initiatives.

Hospitals Applaud MTN’s Intervention

Receiving the refurbished equipment on behalf of the beneficiary institutions, Medical Superintendent of Achimota Hospital, Dr. Jackline Anita Sowah, described the intervention as timely and transformative.

She said the refurbished equipment arrives at a critical time when demand for quality healthcare continues to increase, adding that it will improve patient comfort, strengthen service delivery, reduce pressure on hospital resources, and help address the country’s no-bed challenge.

Dr. Sowah also expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana, Sika Pɛ Adwuma Co. Ltd., and the DOSH Foundation for their contributions toward improving healthcare delivery and supporting vulnerable patients.

About 21 Days of Y’ello Care

The nationwide intervention formed part of MTN Ghana’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care, the company’s flagship employee volunteerism programme.

This year’s campaign was held under the theme: “Expand Equitable Health for Every Community.”

The initiative mobilised MTN employees across Ghana to volunteer their time, skills and resources to improve healthcare access, promote preventive healthcare and create healthier communities nationwide.

Since the establishment of the MTN Ghana Foundation in 2007, the Foundation has implemented 166 major corporate social investment projects across the country, spanning health, education, economic empowerment and community support, reaffirming MTN’s commitment to Ghana’s sustainable development.
