President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, July 16, 2026, commenced a two-day “Resetting Ghana” tour of the Volta Region, where he is expected to launch key infrastructure projects, inspect ongoing developments, and engage residents on major government policies and programmes.
The President began his tour in Juapong, where he performed the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of 18 new 24-Hour Economy Model Markets. The markets form part of the government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Programme, with one modern market planned for each district in the Volta Region.
The initiative is aimed at expanding market infrastructure, stimulating local commerce, creating employment opportunities, and promoting round-the-clock economic activity to improve livelihoods across the region.
As part of his itinerary, President Mahama will also visit Peki College of Education and the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) at Sokode to interact with management, students, and staff while assessing ongoing developments at the institutions.
The President is further expected to inspect construction works on the Asikuma–Ho Road, a strategic project being executed under the government’s Big Push Programme, which seeks to accelerate infrastructure development and improve road connectivity across the country.
In addition, he will commission the newly completed Akatsi North District Police Headquarters, a project expected to strengthen security and improve policing services within the district.
Accompanied by Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and heads of public institutions, President Mahama will also host an educational durbar on the government’s Free Primary Health Care Programme. The engagement is intended to educate residents on the policy’s objectives, implementation strategy, and expected benefits while providing an avenue for public interaction.
On the second day of the tour, Friday, July 17, President Mahama will hold a town hall meeting at Ho Technical University, where he is expected to engage directly with chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and residents of the Volta Region.
The forum will offer citizens the opportunity to provide feedback on the government’s development agenda, discuss local priorities, and interact with the President on key policy interventions affecting the region.
The President is also scheduled to inspect the Ho Sports Stadium to assess its current condition and explore options for its rehabilitation and future development as part of efforts to improve sports infrastructure in the country.
The two-day tour underscores the Mahama administration’s commitment to promoting inclusive development, strengthening public engagement, and accelerating the implementation of flagship programmes under the Resetting Ghana Agenda.
