The Ministry of Education has extended the 2026 Senior High School (SHS) placement exercise by one week to give students with outstanding placement challenges additional time to secure admission before schools reopen.
The extension is intended to provide more time for students who are undertaking self-placement or seeking changes to their residential status to complete the necessary processes ahead of the September 18, 2026 reopening date.
As part of the extension, CSSPS resolution centres across the country will remain open from Monday to Friday to address unresolved placement cases and assist students and parents facing difficulties with the placement process.
Press Secretary to the Education Minister, Hashmin Mohammed, told JoyNews that considerable progress had been made in addressing the challenges since the commencement of the resolution exercise.
According to him, 33,726 out of 53,887 students eligible for self-placement have successfully secured placements in various Senior High Schools.
He added that the CSSPS Secretariat had received 9,948 cases at resolution centres nationwide, out of which 4,531 cases had so far been resolved.
“Out of the 53,887 category of self-placement students, we have had 33,726 who have been able to self-place themselves into various schools and out of 9,948 reported cases at the resolution centres throughout the country, the CSSPS Secretariat has been able to resolve 4,531 so far,” he said.
Mr Mohammed said the Ministry was optimistic that the number of outstanding cases would reduce significantly before students are expected to report to school on September 18.
He explained that the continued operation of the resolution centres would allow officials to work through the remaining cases and ensure that as many students as possible have their placement concerns addressed before the reopening date.
“The resolution centres will remain active from Monday till Friday and we are hoping that by Friday, the numbers should be able to go down because on September 18, they will report to school,” he added.
The Ministry has therefore urged students and parents with unresolved 2026 SHS placement issues to take advantage of the extended period and visit the appropriate resolution centres for assistance before the September 18 reopening.
The extension is expected to ease pressure on students and parents while giving the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) Secretariat additional time to resolve outstanding cases.
