‘Stop Sharing Nude Photos Online’ – Gomoa West MP Urges Ghanaians

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Hon. Richard Gyan Mensah, has urged Ghanaians, particularly young people, to desist from taking and sharing nude or sexually explicit pictures of themselves on social media platforms.

According to the MP, people who share such images may not fully understand the potential consequences, particularly because they have little control over what recipients may eventually do with the pictures.

Hon. Richard Gyan Mensah made the call when he addressed the congregation as a special guest at the annual Peace Festival of the Musama Disco Christo Church at Mozano in the Central Region.

He cautioned the public to be mindful of their actions on social media, stressing that no one knows what the future holds or how circumstances may change.

He noted that an individual who willingly sends private pictures to another person may later regret the decision if the images are misused or circulated without consent.

The Gomoa West MP therefore encouraged anyone who may have engaged in such behaviour in the past to reflect on it, seek God’s forgiveness and make a conscious decision to avoid repeating it.

Traditional Leader Joins Call

The Chief of Gomoa Dasu and Apagyahen of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council, Nana Obokomatta XI, also urged young people to refrain from sharing nude pictures through social media.

Nana Obokomatta XI said such practices are frowned upon by both Ghanaian cultural values and the country’s laws, stressing the importance of protecting one’s dignity and respecting societal norms.

He encouraged the youth to use social media responsibly and avoid activities that could negatively affect their future, reputation and relationships.

The traditional leader also expressed concern about other challenges confronting young people, including substance abuse, which he said is increasingly having negative consequences on their lives and future prospects.

He called on parents, traditional authorities, religious leaders and other stakeholders to intensify education and guidance for the youth.

Musama Disco Christo Church Highlights Importance of Peace

The General Secretary of the Musama Disco Christo Church, Rev. Isaac Kwesi Bagyinah, on his part, highlighted the importance of peace, which he said forms part of the Church’s message for the year.

Rev. Bagyinah noted that many of the challenges witnessed in different parts of the world are linked to the absence of peace and peaceful coexistence.

He called on Ghanaians to promote peace in their homes, communities and workplaces, stressing the need for people to respect and live harmoniously with their neighbours and fellow citizens from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

According to him, maintaining peace requires tolerance, mutual respect and a willingness to accommodate people from different backgrounds.

The annual Peace Festival at Mozano brought together religious leaders, traditional authorities, politicians, members of the congregation and other stakeholders to reflect on the importance of peace, responsible living and moral values in society.
