Dr Stephen Amoah Condemns Directive By Chief Of Staff To Revoke Public Sector Appointments

The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah, has condemned the Chief of Staff’s directive to revoke all public sector appointments made after 7 December 2024.

The directive has sparked significant debate, with differing views on its legality and impact on the country’s democratic principles. Dr Amoah has criticised the move as undemocratic, warning that it undermines Ghana’s democratic values.

Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews, Dr Amoah strongly opposed the decision, stating:

“I condemn what is happening. It is not in good faith, it is not supporting democracy, it’s destroying Ghana, and it must not be entertained.” He emphasised that such actions are detrimental to the country’s democratic growth and could have long-lasting negative effects.

Dr Amoah also reflected on his own experiences in leadership, sharing that when he was appointed CEO, he never dismissed anyone based on their political affiliation.

He recounted a conversation with someone who, concerned about his political background, feared being dismissed. Dr Amoah reassured him, saying: “No, my brother, I cannot do that. If people do that, it is wrong. Stay until you feel like resigning.”

In contrast, Alhassan Suhuyini, NDC Member of Parliament for Tamale North and Deputy Minister nominee for Roads and Highways, defended the directive.

He argued that the Chief of Staff is simply following a well-established tradition in Ghanaian politics, stating: “The Chief of Staff is working to the script that all political leaders have worked with in this country. Anytime there is a change in government, it’s the script, and it’s for fairness.”
