Omanhen of the Abeadze Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII
The Abeadze Traditional Council has officially launched the 2026 Ogya Festival at Abeadze Domenase, urging all natives and residents of the traditional area to unite and actively participate in the celebrations aimed at promoting peace, cultural heritage and community development.
The Ogya Festival is a unique traditional event that marks the beginning of the annual Abeadze Ahobaa Kɛse Festival, serving as a symbolic invitation for all sons and daughters of Abeadze, both home and abroad, to return home and reconnect with their roots.
Addressing the gathering during the launch, the Ankobeahen of the Abeadze Traditional Area, Nana Antwi Boasiako III, explained the history and significance of the Ogya Festival. He noted that the lighting and movement of the sacred fire signify the commencement of the Ahobaa Kɛse celebrations and remind indigenes that it is time to return home to celebrate with their families and community.
According to him, the Ogya Festival has over the years remained a strong symbol of unity, bringing together people from all walks of life to strengthen communal bonds and preserve the rich traditions of the Abeadze Traditional Area.
Nana Antwi Boasiako III further stated that beyond its cultural importance, the festival also promotes environmental sanitation, as communities organise clean-up exercises and other communal activities in preparation for the main festivities.
The Omanhen of the Abeadze Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, reiterated that the Ogya Festival serves as a reminder for natives living both within and outside the traditional area to return home to honour their ancestors and participate in activities that foster development.
He explained that, in accordance with tradition, the sacred fire is first presented to the Omanhene before being handed over to the Twafo Division, led by Nana Obrenu, who then begins the ceremonial journey across all communities within the Abeadze Traditional Area. This symbolic procession ensures that every community takes part in the celebrations and shares in the cultural significance of the festival.
Also speaking at the event, the Assembly Member for Abeadze Domenase Electoral Area, Hon. Charles Kobina Annin, described the Ogya Festival as the official opening of the Ahobaa Kɛse Festival.
He noted that the festival is celebrated in every community within the Abeadze Traditional Area and plays a vital role in promoting unity, love, peace and collective development among the people.
He therefore encouraged residents, natives and visitors to actively participate in this year’s celebrations to strengthen the bonds of togetherness and contribute to the continued growth and progress of the Abeadze Traditional Area.
