Mourners, traditional leaders and residents of the Mankessim Traditional Area will begin the 40-day observation for the late Her Royal Majesty Abrewatsia Nana Dr Ama Amissah III, the Paramount Queen Mother of the Mankessim Traditional Area, on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
Following her passing, the bereaved family, in collaboration with the Mankessim Traditional Council, has announced September 12 as the official date for the commencement of the traditional 40-day rites in her honour.
The observance will bring together chiefs, queen mothers, family members, dignitaries and members of the public to pay their final respects and celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of the late Paramount Queen Mother, who was widely respected for her dedication to the development, peace and cultural heritage of the Mankessim Traditional Area.
The 40-day ceremony forms an important part of Akan funeral traditions, marking a period of remembrance, reflection and thanksgiving before the announcement of subsequent funeral arrangements.
The Mankessim Traditional Council and the bereaved family are expected to release further details regarding the venue, programme of activities and funeral arrangements in the coming days. They have also called on the people of Mankessim and well-wishers from across the country to join in honouring the memory of the late Queen Mother.
