Ghana Armed Forces Announces Joint Military Exercise in Bono and Upper East Regions

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced a joint military exercise in parts of the Bono and Upper East Regions from Sunday, May 10 to Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
The exercise, codenamed Exercise Storm Shield 2026, will be conducted by the Ghana Army in collaboration with the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Air Force.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the operation is an internal security and counter-insurgency field training exercise aimed at enhancing the operational readiness and rapid response capabilities of troops to address emerging security threats.
Residents in the affected areas are expected to witness increased military activity throughout the period of the exercise.
“The public is advised not to panic, but to go about their normal duties,” the statement urged.
The military further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace and security across the country.
The exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Armed Forces to strengthen preparedness against contemporary security challenges.
