“I Was Mocked for Getting Pregnant Out of Wedlock as a Pastor’s Daughter” — Sophia Momodu

Nigerian influencer and entrepreneur Sophia Momodu has revealed that she faced emotional and psychological abuse after becoming pregnant out of wedlock with Nigerian singer Davido.

Speaking at a United Nations General Assembly event in New York on Monday, Momodu said she was mocked and heavily criticised because she was the daughter of a pastor who had become pregnant outside marriage.

According to her, the experience left her emotionally drained and caused her to lose her voice despite being a public figure.

“I am a pastor’s daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crazy. I had to find myself in the midst of all that.”

Momodu said she struggled for a long time with the negative criticism and pressure surrounding her personal life.

“For a long time, I didn’t have a voice despite being famous. I was worried and getting drained by the negative criticisms. If you are a Nigerian, you will know that it is almost a taboo for a pastor’s daughter to have a child out of wedlock,” she said.

She added that she eventually found her voice after repeatedly being told to remain silent because of the shame associated with her situation.

Sophia Momodu is the mother of Imade Adeleke, her daughter with Davido.
