January 28, 2025 – WellsForAll (formerly Hive Borehole), a Ghanaian-led clean water initiative, has successfully completed 25 mechanised boreholes in 2025, delivering safe and reliable drinking water to underserved rural communities and significantly improving girls’ education, family health, and overall quality of life.
In many rural areas of Ghana, girls traditionally bear the responsibility of fetching water, often trekking long distances daily. By bringing clean water closer to homes, WellsForAll-supported boreholes have helped increase girl-child school attendance by up to 60 percent, enabling more girls to remain in school and focus on their education.
Communities benefiting from the projects have also recorded a 40 percent reduction in waterborne diseases, easing household healthcare burdens and reducing school absenteeism linked to illness.
“When water is far, girls pay the price,” said Samuel Owusu-Boadi, Founder of WellsForAll. “By providing reliable water in our communities, we are giving girls back their time, their health, and their opportunity to learn.”

Despite progress, access to clean water remains a challenge in many parts of rural Ghana, particularly where systems fail due to poor maintenance. WellsForAll addresses this gap through the construction of durable mechanised boreholes, coupled with strong community engagement to ensure long-term sustainability.
As Ghana continues its push toward inclusive rural development, initiatives that connect water access, education, and gender equity are proving critical to building resilient and thriving communities.
Looking Ahead
WellsForAll plans to expand its clean water interventions in 2026, with additional borehole projects and strategic partnerships already underway. The organisation aims to build on the momentum of 2025 by collaborating with donors, development partners, and local stakeholders to extend sustainable water access to more underserved communities across Ghana and the wider African region.
