MoMo Fintech Lab Attracts Nearly 1,000 Entries as Applications Close September 30

MobileMoney Fintech Ltd (MMFL) has received more than 990 applications from innovators across Ghana for the 2026 MoMo Fintech Lab, highlighting strong interest in developing practical solutions for the country’s digital financial services sector.

Applications for the nationwide innovation programme remain open until September 30, 2026.

The MoMo Fintech Lab is designed to identify, mentor and support innovators in transforming technology-driven ideas into practical and commercially viable solutions that address everyday challenges, expand financial inclusion and strengthen Ghana’s digital economy.

Everyday Payments and Financial Access Leads

Of the more than 990 entries received so far, 56% are focused on Everyday Payments and Financial Access, making it the largest of the programme’s four innovation tracks.

Business and Merchant Growth Tools accounts for 17% of submissions, while Trust, Security and Digital Identity represents 15%. Future of Finance and Connected Ecosystems accounts for the remaining 12%.

The submissions also span various stages of development. A total of 374 entries (37.8%) are at the concept stage, 341 (34.4%) are at the idea stage, 156 (15.8%) are prototypes, while 119 (12.0%) have reached the minimum viable product (MVP) stage.

Regionally, Accra accounts for 63% of the entries, followed by Kumasi with 26% and Tamale with 11%.

MMFL CEO Commends Response

Commenting on the response, Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech Ltd, said the number of submissions reflects Ghana’s growing pool of innovative talent.

“The response so far is encouraging. Receiving nearly 1,000 submissions demonstrates the depth of Ghana’s innovative talent and a strong appetite for developing solutions to real-world challenges.

“We are particularly encouraged by ideas that seek to make payments and financial services more accessible, support businesses and merchants, and strengthen the wider digital economy. We invite more innovators to apply before the September 30 deadline and bring forward ideas with the potential to create meaningful impact.”

Bootcamps and Hackathons to Follow

Following the application stage, selected applicants will participate in zonal bootcamps and hackathons in Tamale, Kumasi and Accra.

The sessions will provide participants with training opportunities and platforms to pitch their ideas to expert panels. Successful applicants will then progress to a mentorship lab, where they will receive further guidance and support to refine and develop their solutions.

The programme will culminate in a National Demo Day, where finalists will showcase their solutions and compete for cash awards of up to GH¢100,000, alongside digital devices and other forms of support to advance their projects.

Beyond the awards, selected participants will receive technical, leadership and commercialisation training, mentorship, industry exposure and access to networks aimed at helping them build scalable and sustainable solutions.

Launched on August 12, 2026, the MoMo Fintech Lab seeks to identify, mentor and support innovators developing solutions that address everyday challenges and contribute to Ghana’s digital financial services ecosystem.

The programme is organised in partnership with the Bank of Ghana, with support from ecosystem partners including GCB Bank, Hubtel, appsNmobile, Zenith Bank, First National Bank, Blue Penguin, Korba, Fidelity Bank, Afrifanom (VaMiJo) and JUMO.
